Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains what information BackBurnerMemo (“we”, “us”) collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using the app, you agree to this policy.
1. Information we collect
- Account information. Email address (magic link sign-in) and/or identifiers from Apple Sign In or Google Sign-In.
- Memos you create. Text you type, and voice recordings you capture for transcription. Voice audio is uploaded temporarily, transcribed, then deleted from our storage. We keep the resulting transcript and research brief.
- Push tokens. If you enable notifications, we store an Expo push token so we can notify you when a brief is ready or for optional follow-up reminders.
- Device preferences. Settings such as reminder timing and device timezone (to schedule reminders correctly).
- Analytics and diagnostics. We use PostHog for product analytics, JavaScript error reports, and (in native builds) session replay. We identify analytics events with your account id only — not your email. Memo text in the UI is masked in session replay where practical. You can turn analytics off in Settings.
2. How we use information
- To operate the app: authenticate you, store your memos, and show briefs.
- To research your note: we send transcripts to Anthropic (Claude) and, for voice, OpenAI (Whisper). For Deep look sources we may use Tavily web search.
- To send push notifications you enable.
- To understand product usage and fix crashes (PostHog), unless you opt out.
3. Processors / third parties
- Supabase — authentication, database, file storage, edge functions
- Anthropic — research briefs
- OpenAI — speech-to-text for voice notes
- Tavily — optional web search for Deep look sources
- Expo — app builds and push delivery
- PostHog — analytics, error tracking, session replay
- Apple / Google — if you choose those sign-in methods
These providers process data only to provide their services to us. They are expected to protect data consistent with this policy and applicable law.
4. Retention
- Temporary voice audio is deleted after transcription (or on upload failure cleanup).
- Transcripts, briefs, and account records remain until you delete them or your account.
- Analytics events are retained according to our PostHog project settings.
5. Your choices
- Disable notifications in the app or system settings.
- Opt out of analytics in Settings → Analytics.
- Delete individual memos in the app (swipe to delete).
- Delete your account in Settings → Delete account. This removes your auth user, profile, memos, and associated temp audio we can still find under your account. Analytics identity is reset on the device after deletion.
- Email info@backburnermemo.com for privacy questions or deletion help.
6. Children
BackBurnerMemo is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your region). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
7. Changes
We may update this policy. The effective date at the top will change when we do. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
